“Zhamanak” comments on Armenia’s plans to send a delegate to a meeting of senior military officials of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to be held in Baku soon. “In general it is unclear what Armenia’s representative will do in Azerbaijan in the case when Baku continues its war rhetoric and when the CIS as such has become a formal institution today. But someone must have needed it very much that Armenia should participate in the Baku session in order to ensure the so-called ‘representation’. Otherwise, only Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and a couple of other Central Asian states would have remained there,” writes the paper, assuming that the decision on Armenia’s participation in the Baku event was taken by Moscow.

“Zhoghovurd” comments on the statement by German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morell. Talking to RFE/RL’s Armenian Service (Azatutyun.am) on Tuesday, Morell said that after his communication with the Armenian government he allowed for President Serzh Sarkisian’s remarks on Crimea to be a general statement of Yerevan’s approach towards the right of peoples to self-determination. “The German ambassador, in fact, revealed the ‘double game’ being played by Armenia’s government. Of course, such diplomatic maneuvers in such cases are only welcome, since they meet Armenia’s interests to remain neutral, of course, not at the expense of worsening relations with Russia. But the problem here is that it was done in a rather unsophisticated manner, as a result of which Russian pressure on official Yerevan to present a more specific position will increase in the time to come.”

Commenting on the plans of the four minority factions in parliament to initiate a motion of no-confidence against the government, ruling party lawmaker Vartan Ayvazian tells “Hayots Ashkhar”: “Raising the issue of the government’s resignation is just another move by the opposition. Many such moves have been initiated before. Whether the government works well or not, they will criticize it all the same. Soon, the government will present the budget execution report to the parliament. Regardless of whether the budget has been fulfilled or not, the opposition will vote against it…The opposition’s work is easy, because it is easy to be critical of everything. I am glad that the four parties are consolidating their efforts, but I would be even more so glad if they were constructive, because I attach great importance to the opposition’s work.”

“Chorrord Ishkhanutyun” describes the Tuesday action by a group of environmental activists at an international conference on mining issues in Yerevan as “quite constructive”. “Had the environment minister drunk the water contaminated with wastes, a change would have happened in the government, which would, no doubt, have a positive impact on the preservation of the environment,” the paper writes ironically.

Meanwhile, “Hraparak” criticizes the behavior of the environmental activists. The paper’s editor writes: “The aggressive behavior of the young activists and even nice-looking girls was not understandable. A glass of dirty water that the young woman offered to the ministers, yelling at them, was not convincing to me. I doubt one can achieve success with such behavior.”
