“Haykakan Zhamanak” slams the newly disclosed details of the latest Russian-Armenian gas agreement, saying that eliminates any business risks for Russia’s Gazprom monopoly in Armenia. In particular, the paper says, the Armenian government undertook to ensure that the profit margins of Armenia’s gas distribution network owned by Gazprom do not fall below 9 percent. Gazprom was also granted the exclusive right to export electricity from Armenia.
“Aravot” says that Russian cannot again “colonize” Armenia and other former Soviet republics without offering them a “superior culture.” “We have achieved a certain cultural level,” editorializes the paper. “They cannot dominate us with a culture below that level. The most stupid thing Russia could do now is to block the European culture.”
“Zhoghovurd” links Armenia’s decision to ditch an Association Agreement with the European Union and join a Russian-led customs union instead with Tuesday’s ruling by the European Court of Human Rights which said that public denial of the Armenian genocide is not a crime. The paper claims that this is the latest in a series of European retaliatory measures against Armenia.
“Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun” describes as “absolutely unserious” the Armenian government approach to resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The pro-opposition paper accuses the government of putting itself at the mercy of Russia in the negotiation process.
