“168 Zham” disapproves of Dashnaktsutyun allegations that the murder of Proshian village Mayor Hrach Muradian was politically motivated. “People in Armenia are killed almost every month but no political party issues statements in connection with that,” writes the paper. “Nobody protests against lawlessness, insecurity and criminal practices. Parties react and condemn only murders of their members and other attacks carried out against them. When that happens to an ordinary non-partisan citizen it is [considered] an ordinary, rather than political murder.”

“Zhamanak” reports that the Yerevan municipality has dismissed criticism of its policies voiced by Vartan Oskanian, a former foreign minister who tops the list of Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) candidates in the upcoming mayoral elections. The municipality said on Wednesday that many of the city’s problems were left over from Armenia’s previous government, of which Oskanian was a member. “Every time a public issue begins to be discussed in Armenia the discourse immediately descends into mutual accusations,” comments the paper. “They start reminding one another of their present and past … The problem is that on the one hand those reminders distract people from the subject matter but on the other hand all that is probably important for discussions so that participants to not manipulate things.”

Vahe Hovannisian, a BHK lawmaker, tells “Orakarg” that it will be very difficult for the BHK and other opposition forces to jointly monitor the conduct of the May 5 elections in Yerevan. “The opposite side is not made up of stupid people,” he says. “We need to figure out how they falsify [elections] and how to counter that. If we leave it to one force to counter fraud nothing will work out. The resources of any party are much smaller than those of the state apparatus.”

“Aravot” demands that the Armenian police explain why they secretly videotape opposition gatherings held across the country. The paper says the conspicuous presence of plainclothes police officers at opposition rallies is “incomprehensible.”
