“Zhamanak” reminds its readers about the memorandum signed in February 2011 by the then three governing coalition partners – the Republican Party of Armenia, the Prosperous Armenia Party and Orinats Yerkir committing themselves to supporting the current president, Serzh Sarkisian, in the 2013 presidential election. “The Republican Party yesterday reminded Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukian about this circumstance, mentioning that Tsarukian has not in any way renounced this memorandum… Why hasn’t Tsarukian renounced it while even the prosecution of Vartan Oskanian, a senior member of his party, would seem enough for doing that? The coalition memorandum appears to be a kind of safety net for Tsarukian, an insurance of sorts to resort to when all other options fail.”

In an interview with “Orakarg” Armenia’s state human rights ombudsman, Karen Andreasian, says that any move by the National Assembly to strip its member of immunity has a political element in it. “In other words, lawmakers are given political freedom to decide whether they trust the arguments presented by the state prosecutor or not. In voting they, of course, can be guided by legal principles, but it is also obvious that they may also have political motivations. As a person and specialist I honestly don’t believe that this can be viewed as a legal process only.”

The “Aravot” editor comments on the statement by Shirak Governor Ashot Gizirian, who said during Thursday’s “coronation” of Gyumri’s newly elected mayor Samvel Balasanyan that “the Georgians should not be boasting of their being the first to transfer power peacefully, through elections, while in reality it first happened in Gyumri.” “Unfortunately, Mr. Gizirian is wrong: simply the previous mayor, with his eccentric character and his son who has criminal inclinations began to get on his bosses’ nerves. Eventually, they decided to replace him with a more balanced individual and this is not, by any means, a ‘peaceful’ transfer of power.”

In an interview with “Hayots Ashkhar” opposition Heritage party vice-chairman Armen Martirosian denies any problems between his party and Free Democrats after certain ‘misunderstanding’ transpired in the relations of their leaders over the seats in the parliamentary faction earlier this month. “As you see neither Heritage, nor Free Democrats have said anything bad about each other, no offensive statements have been made. [Free Democrats member Alexander] Arzumanian had provided quite clear explanations still before the meeting between [Heritage leader] Raffi Hovannisian and [Free Democrats leader] Khachatur Kokobelian. So, there isn’t really a need to look for a black cat in a dark room.”
