Press Review

“Aravot” says the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) continues to heavily rely on “oligarchs” in its quest for another electoral victory. “The downside to that for the HHK is that the oligarchs are thus becoming easy targets for the opposition and the HHK will get more bashing during the campaign,” editorializes the paper. “These entrepreneurs are really not politicians. They are not distinguishing themselves with a high level of education and are absolutely incapable of engaging in political activities. But these ‘minor’ shortcomings are offset by the fact that the oligarchs have no problem getting elected.”

“Zhamanak” complains the key election players are “not reacting adequately to the country’s realities.” “In the current parliamentary race intrigues and shadowy deals play a more important role,” writes the paper. “And political forces are, so to speak, playing politics while forgetting the fact that you can play politics in those countries that have established political systems, established state institutions and established constitutional order. Armenia has none of that. Therefore, political games in Armenia degenerate into conspiracies against the society.”

“Politics is a sport like football where objective refereeing is encouraged,” writes “Hayots Ashkhar.” “But to think that people’s lives would change as a result of a Zharangutyun or HAK victory makes almost as much sense as to think that Pyunik Yerevan’s victory in the [Armenian] championship would improve medical services in the city.”
