“Hayots Ashkhar” says President Serzh Sarkisian’s decision to visit Moscow shortly after his talks in Washington is “understandable and logical.” “Official Moscow’s role in the process of normalizing Turkish-Armenian relations is so large that after each phase of negotiations Armenia needs to synchronize clocks with the allied nation,” explains the pro-presidential daily. It argues that Russia will hold high-level negotiations with Turkey next month and will continue its “theatrical flirt” with Azerbaijan. “Moscow’s aim has been and remains to separate Turkey and Azerbaijan in the strategic sense,” it claims. “And in this regard, Armenia’s and Russia’s aims do not contradict each other in principle.”

“Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun” reports that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) claims to have collected 220,000 signatures in protest against the Turkish-Armenian protocols and plans to hold demonstrations soon. “If we look at raw facts, we will see that the entire world except Turkey’s authorities and Dashnaktsutyun are against the ratification of the protocols,” says the paper. “In sum … Dashnaktsutyun is playing [Turkish Prime Minister] Erdogan’s hands. And Azerbaijan’s as well because the Azerbaijanis too are fighting, almost as fervently as the Dashnaks, against protocol ratification.”

“Dashnaktsutyun’s position is absolutely clear: they think those protocols do not stem from the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people, are humiliating for us, and that we must therefore continue to fight against their ratification,” continues “Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun.” “The thing is not whether or not these claims are correct. The thing is that in this case the Dashnaks must declare Erdogan a national hero and put up his statue in one of our villages because it is thanks to Erdogan that those anti-Armenian protocols have not been ratified.”

“168 Zham” looks at the political subtext of Saturday’s clash of two allegedly criminal groups in Yerevan that was followed by mass arrests of their members. “In this case, it is not that important whether or not Saturday’s thugs are card-carrying [governing] party members,” says the paper. “In reality, in terms of their functional significance, they are more zealous Republicans and BHK members than necktied representatives of those parties appearing on television.” It says those involved in the incident are the kind of people who “ensure the regime’s reproduction in Armenia.”

“It is those youngsters and crime figures that fought tooth and nail for the regime in the last presidential, parliamentary and local elections,” says “168 Zham.” “They rigged elections in order to get, among other things, a government carte blanche to settle scores in such fashion.”
