A French journalist who addressed the Armenian Genocide of 1915 has won a top award in a prestigious international competition honoring journalists who cover armed conflicts around the world, Reuters reported from Paris on Monday.

Jean Kehayan of the French daily “Liberation” was awarded the Prix Ouest France Jean Marin for an article detailing the mass killings and deportations of some 1.5 million Armenians in Ottoman Turkey.

The annual contest’s jury comprises journalists and editors from around the world.

Its highest award in the photo category, the Bayeux Prize for War Correspondents, was given to Reuters photographer Yannis Behrakis for his pictures of the liberation of Kabul from the Taliban in November 2001.
