OSCE Head Visits Armenia

The chairman-in-office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Jaime Gama, arrived in Armenia late on Monday at the start of a regional tour dominated by security issues.

Gama, who is also Portugal's foreign minister, went straight into talks with his Armenian counterpart Vartan Oskanian. He will meet on Tuesday with President Robert Kocharian.

The unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is expected to top the agenda of Gama’s talks in Yerevan and Baku where he is due on Wednesday. Through its so-called Minsk Group the OSCE has been the main international body looking for a peaceful solution to the dispute for the past ten years.

Gama, whose country currently holds the OSCE’s rotating presidency, will meet with Arkady Ghukasian, president of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, in Yerevan on Tuesday.
