Andreasian, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, is charged with unauthorized use of subsoil or natural resources, as well as giving and receiving bribes, according to the Anti-Corruption Committee.
Six other people detained in connection with the same case have also been remanded in custody or placed under house arrest, the committee said.
Among those charged in the case is the head of the Syunik regional unit of Armenia’s Eco-Patrol Service, a body responsible for protecting state forests and specially protected natural areas.
The Anti-Corruption Committee disclosed no other details of the case against the Meghri officials, citing the interests of the preliminary investigation. The Meghri municipality did not immediately comment on the arrests.
Andreasian’s arrest comes some six weeks ahead of local elections in Meghri, which are scheduled for October 25.
