“Haykakan Zhamanak” claims that President Serzh Sarkisian and his entourage are keen to minimize Prime Minister Karen Karapetian’s chances of retaining his post in April 2018. The paper alleges that they are “provoking tension” between Karapetian and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) and inciting revolts against businessman Gagik Tsarukian for this purpose.

“Zhamanak” says that Sarkisian is personally supporting Defense Minister Vigen Sargsian’s initiatives, including the controversial concept of “nation army.” The paper says that he also makes more joint public appearances with Sargsian than Karapetian. “This fact is particularly interesting in the context of 2018,” it says. “And if we also take into account the fact that Serzh Sarkisian has put the issue of security at the heart of his post-presidential status then it becomes clear that the concept of Nation Army is Serzh Sarkisian’s post-presidential political concept, which is juxtaposed in that context against Karen Karapetian’s investment concept.”

“Zhoghovurd” expresses serious concern at the demographic situation in Armenia, calling it a threat to national security. “Despite alarming indicators, the authorities are taking no steps to rectify the situation,” writes the paper. “Instead, the authorities are engaged in the holy task of prolonging their rule as much as possible, squandering our last resources and relentlessly plundering the country.”
