U.S. ‘Grateful’ To Armenia For Katrina Relief

By Emil Danielyan
The United States thanked the Armenian government on Friday for its decision to contribute financially to worldwide efforts to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

“The U.S. Embassy [in Yerevan], on behalf of the American people and the U.S. Government, would like to express its heart-felt gratitude for Armenia’s generous donation of $200,000 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts,” the embassy said in a statement. “The American people are touched and deeply grateful for the generous offers of help we have received from the Armenian Government, and from governments, individuals, and private organizations around the world.”

The decision to donate the sum was announced by the Armenian cabinet on Thursday. Officials said the assistance will be provided in cash.

The U.S. government has received offers of financial and logistical aid from nearly a hundred countries around the world.
