Markarian Picks Replacement For Murdered Aide

Prime Minister Andranik Markarian appointed on Monday the governor of Armenia’s southern Vayots Dzor province as his new adviser and head of the government’s Oversight Service. The official, Pandukht Manukian, will replace Gagik Poghosian who was killed in a bomb explosion on September 11.

Poghosian, 49, died on his way to hospital after the blast caused by a hand grenade attached to the front door of his Yerevan apartment. Prosecutors investigating the crime have so far failed to identify its possible perpetrators. Markarian has linked the murder to Poghosian’s “professional activities.”
