Key Ministers May Avoid Replacement, Kocharian Says

By Armen Zakarian

President Robert Kocharian hinted strongly on Saturday that he has no intention to change key ministers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andranik Markarian contrary to growing media speculations.

Citing different government sources, political commentators have claimed that the so-called “power ministers” in charge of defense, national security and internal affairs will be affected by the ongoing cabinet reshuffle. All of them are close presidential loyalists.

“I have not talked about changes in the power ministries with anybody,” Kocharian told reporters during a visit to a brewery in Yerevan.

The reshuffle got underway on Friday when Kocharian ordered the ministers of state revenues and transport to swap their posts. The move was agreed with Markarian.
