In the new capital of Bessarabia, Chisinau, Armenians had settled as early as the 17th century. There was an Armenian street in the old commercial center of the town. It is still called “Armenian”. Armenians also had their own church, dedicated to St Mary, and built in 1804. The photo story was provided by RFE/RL's Moldovan Service.
