“Chorrord Ishkhanutyun” dismisses the ongoing constitutional reform process in Armenia as a political “show that has nothing to do with the constitution.” “Serzh Sarkisian is implementing yet another business project at his own initiative,” writes the pro-opposition paper. “The question is whether or not the society will allow him to implement this business project. We will see after [the constitutional referendum slated for] December 6. Everything else is just fairy tales, false debates and reality shows.”

“Zhamanak” comments on a campaign of “civil disobedience” to be launched on Tuesday by the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, an alliance of opposition groups trying to use the constitutional referendum for achieving regime change in the country. “It is clear that a certain confrontation will get underway today,” writes the paper. “It will unfold over the course of some time, just like the Marshal Bagramian Avenue protests [in Yerevan in June and July.] It will be an interesting war of nerves [between the authorities and the opposition alliance,] and the key thing will be whose tempers will fray first.” The paper believes that even if this opposition movement fails to achieve its main objective it will benefit the Armenian public by setting another precedent of a challenge against the government.

“It won’t hurt to have some vigilance,” “Aravot” writes in connection with the latest geopolitical developments in the wider region. “The situation around Armenia has become more tense,” editorializes the paper. “It will be great if that tension is defused rapidly. But this does not seem to be on the cards right now. This situation requires special approaches from the authorities, the opposition, the law-enforcers and all citizens.”
