“Hraparak” agrees with opposition deputy Nikol Pashinian’s scathing attacks on the Armenian government that were launched during Wednesday’s parliamentary debates on its three-year program presented by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian. “At last, somebody has said something which everyone knows but few would dare to say loudly,” editorializes the paper. “At last, Hovik Abrahamian and his cabinet have been told, ‘Do not pretend to be virgins; we all know your decades-long immoral lifestyle.’ At last, somebody has spoken out about corruption in practical, rather than theoretical and philosophical, terms.” It says angry rebuttals of Pashinian’s allegations voiced by government ministers and deputies representing the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) were not convincing.

“168 Zham” reports that the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) and its three opposition allies are expected to clarify their common position on the government program on Thursday. The paper says that the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun), the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the Zharangutyun party cannot support it by definition and will certainly vote against it. “The situation with the BHK is a bit different,” it says. “Most BHK deputies cannot vote against Hovik Abrahamian’s program because they are linked to him by various bonds. But in order to maintain unity within the [opposition] quartet they will have to decide to vote against.” It also notes that a BHK proposal to boycott the parliament vote has not been accepted by the three established opposition forces.
