Nagorno-Karabakh - Bako Sahakian (R, C), president of Nagorno Karabakh, meets OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Stepanakert,17Dec2013.
Nagorno-Karabakh’s leadership dismissed on Friday Azerbaijan’s harsh criticism of the chief U.S. mediator in Armenian-Azerbaijani peace talks, saying that Baku is again exposing its lack of interest in a compromise settlement.

The Foreign Ministry of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic reacted to Azerbaijani claims that James Warlick, the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, is favoring the Armenians in the long-running peace process.

A ministry statement dismissed them as “yet another manifestation of Azerbaijan’s unconstructive approach” which is aimed at “artificially dragging out the process” of a Karabakh settlement. “Azerbaijan’s stance testifies to the absence of any interest in a final resolution of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict,” it claimed.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said on Thursday that Baku will demand Warlick’s replacement because he has been “deliberately taking steps aimed at satisfying the interests of the Armenian side and promoting separatism.” Azimov cited, among other things, Warlick’s regular comments on the Karabakh peace process made on Twitter.

The United States has not yet officially reacted to the unprecedented accusations.
