“Hayots Ashkhar” says that Crimea’s secession from Ukraine and annexation by Russia “will open up new opportunities for Nagorno-Karabakh.” “Russia is making it clear to all of its partners in the Commonwealth of Independent States space that if need be, it may disregard their territorial integrity in its dealings with one or another territory seeking self-determination,” writes the paper. “That applies to Moldova, Kazakhstan and, of course, Azerbaijan, which, judging from the behavior of Russian political and expert circles, has come under particularly strong Russian scrutiny because of its clear stance on Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”

“Aravot” comments on a controversial Russian state TV commentator’s declaration that Russia is the only country in the world capable of turning the United States into “radioactive ash.” “That is definitely true,” the paper says in an editorial. “But it is also true that the U.S. can turn Russia into the same ash. And these two countries are capable of wiping out all breathing creatures on our planet. But sane people do not brandish those nuclear toys. Even the elderly members of the Soviet Politburo of the 1980s realized that.”
