“Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun” reports that leaders of the four opposition parties represented in Armenia’s parliament met on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of jointly proposing a vote of no confidence in the government. The pro-opposition paper says this is a very encouraging development even if the four parties fail to agree on the issue. It also wonders what President Serzh Sarkisian’s reaction will be.

“If Serzh Sarkisian decides to suddenly change [Prime Minister] Tigran Sarkisian and his government then Tigran Sarkisian’s most bitter critics will be those individuals who are now saying that the opposition cannot scare them by raising the issue of no confidence,” writes “Zhamanak.” The paper says President Sarkisian and his Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) will have nothing to do worry about if the opposition minority fails to agree on the motion of censure. It says the HHK could also conclude that some of the minority parties are ready to secretly cooperate with the authorities.

“168 Zham” believes that continuing protests against the pension reform in Armenia are potentially more dangerous for the Armenian authorities than past anti-government rallies because unlike vote rigging and other abuses, it is “hitting the pockets” of many people. The negative popular reaction is very natural, says the paper.

“The citizens of Ukraine have proved that having an independent state is important for them,” writes “Aravot.” “For the majority of Armenia’s citizens that is not really important. That majority does not attach importance to not only independence but the state in general for historical reasons. The important thing in our country is for the king and the lords to take care of the people.”

A spokesman for Karabakh President Bako Sahakian tells “Hayots Ashkhar” that it is “fundamentally wrong” to include the Karabakh conflict on the agenda of Armenia’s dealings with the European Union or the Russian-led Customs Union. The official, Davit Babayan, says EU lawmakers should therefore avoid linking their attitudes to the unresolved dispute with Armenia’s plans to join the Customs Union.
