“Zhoghovurd” says that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent official visit exposed increased anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia. The paper says that because of the Armenian government policies Putin is now perceived by a relatively large number of Armenians as a “politician carrying a dictatorial value system.” “But even those who hate Putin and consider him a dictator cannot fail to acknowledge that he is accessible and open to the world media at least once a year,” writes the paper. “Given that the authorities in Armenia try to imitate practically every Russian practice let us try to remember how many news conference have been held by Serzh Sarkisian, the man holding the post of Armenia’s president. Has he ever simultaneously answered questions from local and foreign journalists during his five-and-a-half year presidency? Not to mention direct inquiries from his fellow citizens. No, he hasn’t.”

“Aravot” complains that Armenian government officials have still not provided the public with clear explanations for their opaque gas dealings with Russia. The paper says Friday’s parliament debate on the latest Russian-Armenian gas deal will hardly shed more light on the issue. Quite the opposite, it says, Armenians will end up feeling that “we are again fooled.”

“Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun” bemoans serious divisions among Armenian opposition groups. The paper is disappointed with the fact that a vote of no confidence in the government sought by the Armenian National Congress (HAK) has not been backed by other opposition parties. It says the opposition minority in the National Assembly lacks seats but not strong arguments to demand the government’s resignation.

“Hayots Ashkhar” criticizes the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for overturning a Swiss court ruling that fined Turkish politician Dogu Perincek for publicly denying the Armenian genocide. The pro-presidential daily describes it as a politically motivated decision heralding “the first signals of a new game launched by the West against Armenia.” It says ongoing preparations in France for the passage of a new bill criminalizing Armenian genocide denial are also part of that game.
