“Haykakan Zhamanak” reports that the controversial pension reform is being enforced even among staffers of Armenia’s Constitutional Court which suspended it late last month. The paper lays the blame on the court’s longtime chairman, Gagik Harutiunian, saying that he has once again plunged the country into “legal turmoil.”

“Aravot” disapproves of Monday’s strike by Armenian opera and ballet artists protesting against the reform. “Of course, strike is also a method of struggle,” editorializes the paper. “But you have to warn your clients, spectators, TV viewers and others that ‘I am going on strike in this period and with these demands’ so that they do not count on you during that time.”

“Zhamanak” comments on a letter by Artur Baghdasarian, the secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council, asking Russian authorities exempt Armenian citizens from stricter immigration rules imposed by them recently. The paper criticizes Baghdasarian’s move, saying that labor migration to Russia would give Armenian migrant workers and Armenia in general only short-term economic benefits. “Maybe the toughening of labor migration to Russia may force thousands of our compatriots to stay in Armenia and fight for their social, legal and political rights,” it says. “Namely, to look for a way out not in moving abroad and sending remittances home or taking their families with them but in changing the situation in Armenia.”

“Hraparak” reports that officials at the Armenian ministries of finance and economy are already busy drafting legal amendments designed to harmonize Armenian laws and regulations with Customs Union norms. “Russian officials are simply laughing at our officials’ readiness to join a non-existent union,” claims the paper. “Even they are not sure that the Customs Union will work out.”
