“Haykakan Zhamanak” says that the killing of an ethnic Armenian protester during continuing street clashes in Ukraine’s capital Kiev has heightened public interest in Armenia in the so-called “Euromaidan” movement. The paper notes that the 20-year-old victim, Sergey Nigoyan, had been camped out in Kiev’s central square for over two months with the Armenian national flag.

“Hraparak” acknowledges that the Armenian military has properly honored Sergeant Armen Hovannisian, a soldier who was shot dead by Azerbaijani forces in Nagorno-Karabakh on Monday. But, the paper says, serious problems within the military remain. It says that another conscript died of a serious disease on the same day, just weeks after being drafted.

“Hayots Ashkhar” reports that the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers as well as the U.S., Russian and French co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group will meet in Paris on Friday. The paper notes that unlike their American colleague James Warlick the Russian and French co-chairs have not regretted the Armenian soldier’s killing. “The mediators have not properly evaluated the incident, while the Armenian Foreign Ministry is describing the Azerbaijani raids as merely attempts to disrupt negotiations,” it says, adding that the Paris talks will be pointless and even counterproductive for the Armenian side.

“Aravot” says that income declarations made by senior Armenian government officials are “simply laughable.” “According to them, the overwhelming majority of those officials earn less than our well-paid citizens,” writes the paper.
