Press Review

Speaking to “Zhamanak,” Razmik Zohrabian, a deputy chairman of the ruling Republican Party (HHK), rejects former President Robert Kocharian’s criticism of Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian. “If we don’t defend the prime minister then the president of Armenia will also come under fire,” says Zohrabian. “It’s not that the prime minister and the president are acting separately. Attacking an HHK official means attacking the president of Armenia. Robert Kocharian knows that well and since he was hurt by some things he has spoken out a bit too much.”

“Hraparak” quotes Germany’s ambassador to Armenia, Reiner Morell, as saying that the peoples of “eastern” countries have little say in government policy making and political processes in general. The paper agrees with him, saying that Armenians are even not aware of their government’s intentions and motives, notably on an Association Agreement with the European Union. “Now they are not sharing with us documents related to the Customs Union,” it complains.

“Aravot” believes that unlike opposition parties that have to woo the electorate, civic groups must not engage in populism in fighting for different causes. “People should be told that they can achieve things only through hard work even under a most non-criminal and clean regime,” editorializes the paper.

“People have no money because they have no jobs,” Lyova Khachatrian, a deputy from the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), tells “Zhoghovurd.” “There are no jobs because we lack small and medium-sized businesses. We lack small and medium-sized businesses because all that has been destroyed.”
