RFE/RL's Armenian Service has held the first-ever Facebook press conference in Armenia attended by a government official known as an active user of social networking websites.
During Wednesday’s live session that went on for over an hour Armen Ashotian, the minister of education and science, answered numerous questions sent in by Facebook users either during the show or immediately before its start.
The Facebook press conference proved unprecedented also by its level of interactivity. It was available to the Azatutyun audience in the form of radio broadcast, online audio broadcast and video streaming.
The show generated a lively interest among users in the Armenian segment of Facebook. The moderators of what was originally planned as an hour-long show eventually had to ask the minister to stay for at least 10 minutes longer to make sure not a single interesting question remained unanswered.
The show was watched by as many as 3,500 unique visitors via online video broadcasting alone.
