Russian Gas Returns To Armenia After Pipeline Damage Fixed

AFP
Supplies of Russian gas to Armenia resumed in full on Tuesday morning after damage to a key pipeline was repaired, Armenia's main gas company ArmRosGazprom told AFP.

"Russian gas supply resumed late Monday and by Tuesday morning are due to return to its regular volume," ArmRosGazprom spokeswoman Shushan Sardarian said. Armenia consumes up to nine million cubic meters of gas daily, Sardarian added.

Transit of Russian gas to Armenia had been suspended for five days as a result of damage to a pipeline in eastern Georgia. ArmRosGazprom said at the time that Armenia would not be affected as the country had enough gas in reserve to use while the damage was fixed.

The former Soviet republic depends entirely on Russian gas supplies pumped through Georgia, as the only alternative pipeline route from neighboring Iran is not yet in use.
