YEREVAN, (AP) - The United States is sponsoring a training class and providing equipment for Armenia's national police academy as part of a larger project to help boost the capabilities of the former Soviet republic's law enforcement bodies.
The program is a cooperative effort by Armenia's government and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan said Friday.
In addition to training and equipment, plans for the program include English and computer classes for cadets at the police academy, the Embassy said. Similar projects are planned for schools run by Armenia's Interior Ministry and prosecutor's office.
