Iran Says Gas Pipeline To Armenia ‘Competitive’


MOSCOW, (Itar-Tass) - The construction of a pipeline, which will link Iran and Armenia, meets the interests of the Caspian Sea states, Deputy Foreign Minister, Special Representative of Iran for talks on Caspian Sea Ali Ahani said Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists in Moscow, he stressed that "both states are in favour of the construction of this pipeline." The sides take the talks on this issue very seriously. At the same time Ali Ahani noted that both Iran and Armenia welcomed the participation in this project of other countries concerned.

He said that "this is a very competitive and substantiated project from the economic point of view" and expressed the hope that the two sides will soon be able to take more effective measures and begin the implementation of this project.

Ahani arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for consultations with Russian foreign ministry officials, sources in the Iranian embassy in the Russian capital told Itar-Tass. According to these sources, the central themes at Ali Ahani's meetings with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry is the Caspian Sea problems and issues of bilateral relations.
