A high-ranking delegation from the lower house of Russia’s parliament led by its speaker, Gennady Seleznev, will begin a four-day visit to Armenia on Thursday, officials in Yerevan said on Monday.
Seleznev and nine other deputies representing various factions in the State Duma will review with their Armenian colleagues the current state of “strategic relations” between the two countries with a view towards their further deepening, according to the head of the foreign relations department in the Armenian parliament. The official, Shmavon Shahbazian, said Seleznev will meet with President Robert Kocharian at the end of the “very important” visit on Sunday.
Another Russian parliamentary delegation is due to arrive in Yerevan later month to take part in the session of the Russian-Armenian inter-parliamentary commission. Shahbazian said the commission will examine the implementation of some 120 bilateral agreements.
